The aster family (Asteraceae) is one of the largest angiosperm families, with more than 1,620 genera and 23,600 species of herbaceous plants, shrubs, and trees distributed throughout the world. The plants are characterized by their composite flower heads and one-seeded achene fruits. This series of work takes the generic and symbolized shape we think of when we think of “flower” and plays with the idea of the natural and the manufactured as the flower shapes, in their chromatic greys can be seen as mechanical gear shapes. Thoughts of genetic hybridization of plants and industrialization of nature are considered in this work.
